Learning to Sail
There are a number of ways to learn how to sail with Rhyll Yacht Club. As well as our regular race days, you can also participate in the following activities.
Discover Sailing Days
Discover Sailing is an Australia-wide initiative from Yachting Australia for those wanting an easy introduction (or reintroduction) to the sport of sailing. An experienced skipper will take you sailing on a Club boat, giving you an opportunity to practice at your own pace. Discover Sailing Days are for existing members, prospective members and visitors, and provides an introduction to people of all ages to the sport of sailing. The amount of time spent on the water is dictated by the number of participants and the weather.
It is advised that you wear a wetsuit and booties or bring clothes and shoes (not thongs) that are ok to get wet. Participants need to be able to swim, as there is a small chance of the boat tipping you in the water.
Beginners / Fun Days
These are mostly for members of the Club who would like to refine their skills without the pressure of a serious race. It can involve an on-water game, some light-hearted racing or just going for a sail with other people. This can also include experienced crew changing places with their skippers or people trying out other boats.
Sail Training Days
These are a structured day of learning to sail, which includes some theory and as much practice on the water as the weather allows.
